We have the honour of inviting you to the 2020 Women's Leadership Symposium; the largest Rotman Commerce event of the year! Taking place at the beautiful Shangri-La Hotel on Saturday, January 25th, 2020, WLS is a full day experience encompassing all aspects of the business world ranging from skill building and networking to inspirational panelists and keynote speakers.
Join RCWIB for a day immersed in the world of business and participate in workshops facilitated in collaboration with our partner firms such as Franklin Templeton and Bain & Company. Experience panel sessions on a plethora of topics ranging from Fashion and Beauty to Marketing kicked off by a keynote address along with amazing food catered by the Shangri-La Hotel.
The Women's Leadership Symposium provides opportunities for students of all genders to learn and network from top representatives of various fields such as finance, consulting, fashion and real estate among others. In addition, a special upper year panel for our first year delegates will also be taking place during the afternoon. The day runs from roughly 8am in the morning to 5pm with a light breakfast, lunch, and dessert served throughout.

Jean Blacklock is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with degrees in Commerce and in Law. Jean practiced estate planning and tax law at a major law firm in Calgary before joining BMO Financial Group as an executive in wealth management for a number of years. After leaving BMO, Jean decided to open her own business. Her market research indicated that there was an opportunity for a bakery in Downtown, Toronto, so she spent about a year planning Prairie Girl Bakery. PGB opened its doors in April 2011, and has since expanded to five locations, as well as increasing its product offerings and the online ordering/catering division.
Jean has written four books: two on estate planning (Wiley & Co, 2001 and 2010), one on leadership skills (McGraw Hill, 2006) and The Prairie Girl Bakery Cookbook (Appetites-Penguin Random House, 2016).

RBC is the biggest bank in Canada and is excited to host its second workshop in Women's Leadership Symposium. At this year's conference they will be hosting an Intro to Capital Markets & Technology workshop for students. RBC's workshop is designed for students in all years hoping to learn more about the industry and technological changes happening in the Capital Markets world.
The workshop will include topics such as the false "stigma" around the industry as well as job search, recruiting and networking with recruiters. There will also be a presentation on technology used in Capital Markets.

The Upper Student panel is designed for 1st and 2nd year students to connect with upper year students. It is a great opportunity for students to get tips about how to succeed in the program, job search, recruitment season, networking, and more ... directly from students that have been there before. Danielle Hirch is a graduate of the Ted Rogers School of Management. She obtained a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Marketing and went on to work for the Canadian Olympic Committee. There she managed large scale events during the London and Sochi Olympic Games for local dignitaries, government and Olympians, created the Canadian Olympics Team Mascot, Komak, and built their first licensing department. She then went on to work for Hudson's Bay, managing the Olympic Business and having the opportunity to work on the Pan Am Toronto 2015 collection, Rio 2016 – partnering with Dsquared2 on the opening ceremony outfit, and Pyeongchang 2018 collection. Currently Danielle oversees the operations for Gucci Canada, managing the renovations of all 10 Canada locations over the next 2 years. Jenny MacKinnon is the Vice President, Retail, Aritzia for Central Canada. As a leader, she is passionate about leading and motivating others. Elizabeth Perryman is the Senior Store Brand Leader for Anthropologie Toronto, the highest volume district in the Canadian market. Having earned an honours degree in Sociology from McMaster University, Elizabeth worked her way up from customer associate to overseeing multi-level stores. On her days off she enjoys outdoor activities like skiing, golf, and volleyball. Tapping into Anthropologie's collaborative environment, Elizabeth built a motivated team, leading them to great success in the retail market.

Madison Schill began her career in fashion as a model at age fifteen, and soon rose to fame in the Canadian market. After receiving acknowledgement as one of Canada's Top 20 Under 20 for her work with homeless youth, Madison took up residence in New York City where she worked and travelled internationally for two years as a Ford Model. She found success in Paris where she worked exclusively for Lanvin's Alber Elbaz, Stella McCartney, and Christian Lacroix, gracing countless magazine covers and walking in hundreds of runway shows. Madison's first international fashion week landed her on the runways of forty-three design houses, including Marchesa, Monique L'Huillier, and Oscar de la Renta.
While in school, Madison produced and launched the beginnings of an online style channel with the producers of Fashion Television. Interviewing the likes of DSquared2's Dean and Dan Caten, and Elsa Hosk prepared her to balance a tight schedule and curate an impressive working relationship with many forward-thinking minds in the industry. In her most recent years, Madison was associate producer on New York based documentary Straight/Curve; providing a blueprint to show the success that inclusivity in media can have for our society. From there, she took her skills to influence consumer beauty at Coty, soon moving to lead creative content strategy at media agency Chimera Collective. Even more excitingly, Madison can also be found building a beauty platform to rule them all in her latest venture Su La Po.

Hunter Peebles graduated from Rotman Commerce in 2019 with a specialist in Management and has since been working at Corus Entertainment on the Media Team. She started with RCWIB, as a Marketing Intern and finished her fourth year as President of the organization.
Hunter has always had an interest in the Fashion Industry and begun her career by interning at Pink Tartan on the Marketing and PR Team. Outside of work, you can find her trying to catch up on her reading on an overly crowded TTC train, or watching the W Network with her mum.

Aneseh, an RCWIB alumna, started her consulting journey by joining the management consulting practice within CGI providing strategy, digital transformation, and change management advisory services to clients in various industries, while creating and operationalizing sales processes and frameworks for this new practice. Aneseh has been able to leverage these same skills to help lead IT projects to success for her clients. She is passionate about creating fruitful partnerships with her clients, learning new methodologies and frameworks and applying them to projects, and diving into new industries that come with their own unique challenges.

Vanessa Vidal is a U of T alumna and Marketing Manager at Franklin Templeton, where she leads their financial advisor education efforts and value-add strategies. As the financial advice industry evolves, she believes that those who embrace technology and innovation will be the most successful.

Andrea has been a driving force behind the evolution of the Interac brand. While Interac services have been an integral part of Canadian consumers' and business' daily lives, there was an imperative to improve brand awareness, relevance and motivation in a time of significant change in the payments landscape. During her time at this organization, Andrea relaunched the Interac brand, notably with the award-winning Be in the Black platform, recognized for its sustained success and brand building efforts. Hilary Windrem is a marketing and communications leader based in Toronto. She is currently Director, Brand Marketing for Simplii Financial - the digital direct banking arm of CIBC. She holds an honours degree in Psychology from Queen's University and enjoys mentoring students in her community. Radhika Gupta is an Experienced Associate in the Assurance practice at PwC. She works primarily with clients in the Financial Services sector, and is a UofT alumni having graduated in 2018 from Rotman Commerce. While at Rotman, she also served as the Director of Finance for RCWIB and was a part of the WLS 2017 Conference Committee.

Catherine Angelopoulos is a CPA Rotational Analyst at CPP Investment Board in the Finance, Analytics and Risk department. She currently works in the Financial Policy and Reporting group, which prepares the quarterly and annual financial statements on behalf of the fund. Prior to this, Catherine graduated from Queen's University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Graduate Diploma in Accounting. Outside of work, Catherine is pursuing her CPA designation and enjoys travelling, cooking and reading.

Alexandra Gengler is an Assistant Controller at Enterprise Holdings, where she leads, trains, and develops a highly skilled accounting team to help support our multiple business lines. Alex has started her career in Philadelphia, PA back in 2013 where she began with an internship within the company and then made her way up in her field to be promoted to Houston, TX in 2017 as an Accounting Supervisor. There she was able to successfully develop her team and earn multiple promotions with clean audits and statement periods. Her most recent highlight of success has been her promotion to Assistant Controller in Canada where she oversees a team who manage the greater Toronto Area.

Brintha Kirupakaran is an Accounting Supervisor at Enterprise Holdings where she leads, trains and develops a team of 4 accountants to help provide support for our multiple business lines. She started her career in Toronto in August 2016, then transitioned to Business Management as an Accounting Clerk in June 2017 and was soon promoted to Staff Accountant in November 2017. She was then promoted to Accounting Supervisor in November 2018. In her role as Accounting Supervisor, Brintha has been able to successfully develop her team and earn multiple promotions with clean internal and external audits.

Maggie Lau is the Director, Finance at Wave Financial, an award-winning FinTech company based in Toronto. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a Hon. BBA in Accounting, and joined Ernst & Young LLP’s audit practice, specializing in small businesses and non-for-profit organizations. Upon earning her CPA, CA designation, she moved to Xerox Canada where she spent ten years building financial reporting processes, implementing accounting systems, and working on cross-border tax projects, serving most recently as the Chief Accountant of the company prior to joining Wave.

As a UofT alumna and Director of Development at Urban Capital, Taya has spent her career surrounded by mostly great men... and noticeably few women. So when an article came out in 2018 listing the top developers in the City, and all 20 of them were men, she felt compelled to react. In 2019 she announced Reina, the first project being designed and developed by an all-star team of women — and an unprecedented opportunity to showcase women in development and encourage others to enter the field. Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Yourself... And maybe some business cards for networking. We've got the rest covered.
Q: How long is the conference?
A: Roughly an 8-9 hr day. Registration starts at 8:15 am and closing remarks end at 4:00 pm.
Q: Do I need to be an upper-year student?
A: No! We encourage all students to join, WLS is a great opportunity to network with students and professionals.
Q: What if I work that day? Can I still come?
A: Of course! You can come by at any point in the day, just give us a heads up so we can keep your seat warm!
Q: Is the Evening Social Separate from WLS?
A: Your Evening Social ticket is included when you purchase your WLS 2020 ticket (two events for the price of one)! We look forward to seeing you on both days!
